Beneficiaries of the Sagebrush Classic: Charities for Children in Central Oregon
The Deschutes Children’s Foundation and other non-profit organizations for kids have received more than $2 million from the Deschutes Brewery Sagebrush Classic over the past two decades.
These funds from Central Oregon's premier charity golf event paid off the mortgage on the non-profit's campus in Bend five years early. The non-profit organization has also used funds from the charity golf tournament and feast to create an endowment fund that provides stability and the capacity to consider new projects and better serve children in Deschutes County and Central Oregon.
Currently, Deschutes Children’s Foundation campuses in Bend, East Bend, Redmond and LaPine are home to 31 human service programs that each year serve more than 45,000 children and families. The Foundation also offers community meeting rooms to non-profits and other organizations that help kids and families.
Deschutes Children’s Foundation relies on the community for support. It receives no tax dollars and little in the way of foundation grants.
“Because of the stability created for Deschutes Children’s Foundation through the Sagebrush Classic, we’re helping non-profit organizations help kids,” says director Jan Eggleston.
There are now 27 different organizations on four campuses in Deschutes County. Last year, DCF hosted more than 60,000 children and families in need at these facilities. Because DCF takes care of their facility needs, non-profits can use their time, resources and an estimated $700,000 in savings per year for the direct services that mean everything to the kids and families who receive them.
