June 3, 2005 - Bend, Oregon - Beautiful Bend, Oregon is the location for this summer's hottest culinary and golf event, the 16th annual Deschutes Brewery Sagebrush Classic, set for July 15-16, 2005. This spectacular fundraiser for the Deschutes Children's Foundation plays host to 16 celebrity chefs of national and international renown, as well as a field of 52 foursomes competing in the amateur best ball tournament. All events are held at the exclusive Broken Top Golf Club.

The celebration begins on Friday, July 15, with the golf tournament featuring two shotgun starts and a treasure-trove of prizes. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Moorish, the Broken Top Golf Course is one of Oregon's finest.

The party continues on Saturday, July 16, with the piece-de-resistance, the renowned Sagebrush Classic Feast, where 1100 guests dine on a culinary extravaganza prepared by the visiting celebrity chefs. Chef offerings feature farm fresh produce, succulent meats, artisan cheeses, and exotic ingredients. An oyster bar is presented by Hog Island Oyster Farm.

Guests sip on handcrafted ales from Deschutes Brewery, Robert Mondavi wines, and dance to live music under the summer sky. This year's event features a rock and roll theme headlining The Kingsmen of "Louie Louie" fame.

Celebrity Chefs Line Up for the 2005 Sagebrush Classic

March 18, 2005 - Bend, Oregon

March 18, 2005 - Bend, Oregon - Celebrity chefs from across the nation and around the world are set to gather in Central Oregon for the sixteenth annual Sagebrush Classic on July 15-16, 2005. This spectacular culinary and golf event, presented by Deschutes Brewery and Broken Top Golf Club, is a fundraiser for the Deschutes Children's Foundation.  "It's the Party of the Year," says Gary Fish, founder of Sagebrush Classic, Inc. and owner of Deschutes Brewery. "It's a wonderful reason to come to Bend and stay on to experience the high desert beauty and all it has to offer."

The celebration begins on Friday, July 15, with an amateur best-ball tournament featuring 52 four-person golf teams, two shotgun starts, and a treasure-trove of prizes. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Moorish, the Broken Top Golf Course is one of Oregon's most exclusive.

Chef Jody Denton of Merenda Restaurant is one of three key local chefs overseeing the participation of visiting guest chefs. A celebrity chef in his own right, it was Denton's returning to the Sagebrush Classic year after year that led him to move to Bend and open Merenda. Joining him in hosting chef activities are Chef Gene Soto of Deschutes Brewery and Chef David Abell of Broken Top Club. All three chefs work on the event year-round.

First time chefs from Germany, Santa Fe, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Australia, and Vietnam   will join returning chefs from Hawaii, New Orleans, Oregon and Washington. Chef offerings feature farm fresh produce, succulent meats, artisan cheeses, and exotic ingredients. An oyster bar is presented by Hog Island Oyster Farm.

The Sagebrush Classic is a golf tournament and feast in Bend, Oregon. The golf tournament began in 1990 and the inspiration for the feast was realized in 1994. The primary beneficiary of the event is the Deschutes Children's Foundation, which works to assist families and children in need within Central Oregon. The Foundation manages three centers, two in Bend and one in Redmond, Oregon. Expansion of services and additional centers in other Central Oregon communities are future projects for the Foundation.
